2017 Pro: Martin Smith
Martin was born in South Africa and moved to the USA in 1999 . He started his teaching career in 1982 in South Africa. He has a Quadruple licentiate/Membership degree in American Smooth, American Rhythm, International Standard and International Latin and is qualified with the USTA; ISTD (UK) & USISTD ; NATD (UK) and received the majority of his Ballroom & Latin training from top coaches in South Africa, England, Italy & the USA. He is a qualified & highly experienced Championship Adjudicator Judge for WDSF [ Licensed # 10097224 ], USA Dance and NDCA [ currently not registered with NDCA as a judge due to their 2016 ruling, although is still a member. Martin has judged for 25 years in South Africa, Zimbabwe and USA at all levels of competition, and is also a Professional Surfing Judge. He was USISTD National Committee Officer for 10 years and was USISTD Examinations Director for 3 years. Before that he was a dance politician in South Africa for around 15 years. Formerly he was Dance Director and Manager/Dance Director for Dancesport Va in Virginia Beach, VA. Previously, he was a studio owner for 30 years. Trained & Experienced in FADS, Arthur Murray & TC Club Methods but spent most of his career as an independent teacher/coach in the International style of dancing, and was very involved in the development of underprivileged Dancers in South Africa. Undefeated KZN Provincial Pro Standard Champion and 4th in South Africa. Martin has trained over 20 amateurs to obtain their professional degrees and most are now top Pros in their own Countries. His aim is to promote Ballroom & Latin Dancing and keep it to a high standard for both Amateurs and Professionals, Social and Competition dancers and to ensure fair, honest and correct Judging at ALL times.
